In October, 1999, when I visited an optician he recommended for me to go to a specialist. He said that I had glaucoma and would need treatment and daily use of eye drops. I administer eye drops each morning and each evening.
I visit the specialist regularly for many years, followed by other specialists, until I learned that research on macular degeneration ( I have this in my right eye) was being conducted at the Lions Eye Institute in Nedlands. When I have my photographs taken for this, I also have my glaucoma checks, including a field test.
Although I still drive the car for short distances and wear visual aids at all times, I am grateful for my long distance glasses.
Reading the newspaper is not always easy, and I do have concerns that my eyesight will not remain stable, and the glaucoma can be a constant worry.
