For now, I have 20/20 vision but I know that in the future there’s a big chance that I’m going to start losing my eye-sight.
Even though I have no symptoms today, I know that I am at high risk and can see the signs that one day I will probably get the disease. Glaucoma is in my family, my great grandma had it and I have optic disc cupping and high eye pressure.
Both my parents are optometrists so I am always having lots of tests done to check for it, but so far nothing is really affecting my vision. Because I worked at my parent’s optometry since I was 14 years old I had heard a lot about the disease so was very aware of it from a young age.
As long as you keep getting your eye tests done throughout your lifetime you can pretty much keep it on track. I know I have to be vigilant and keep an eye on it so that I don’t get glaucoma too.
