I was motivated to volunteer for Glaucoma Australia because as an Optometry student, my passion has always been to go above and beyond in ensuring that I can dedicate my time and effort into helping shape the eye care and healthcare services in Australia.

I have seen first-hand the impact that Glaucoma Australia's advocacy and awareness campaigns have made in the lives of my family and community, and I wanted to contribute actively to ensure that impact continued for other communities.

My role as a volunteer was to create educational videos regarding glaucoma awareness and diagnosis, whilst also taking part in advocacy and referring to Glaucoma Australia whenever I hear of patients and individuals who want to know more about glaucoma. Managing time has always been a difficulty whilst balancing full-time work and studies, but I've always found that if you're passionate about a specific topic, you'll find a way to slot it into your schedule.

The greatest learning from this experience has been knowing that I am part of a bigger cause than myself when assisting in advocacy and raising awareness. I want to leave a legacy in my pursuits, and eye care is one of those I want to shape for better accessibility, education and awareness. This experience has given me a greater perspective on the real-life examples, and situations that patients go through daily.
