My grandmother lived the last years of her life blind, and my doctor said it was probably glaucoma, as it was not known at that time.

My mother wore glasses all her life and when she was found to have glaucoma, she was told to bring me to the next eye appointment, and I was also found to have the disease.

Over the years I used drops for a long time, as well as getting the cataracts in both eyes removed.

I have had laser treatment, and finally a trabeculectomy, which has changed both my sight and my life. Today I need glasses only to read fine print, such as newspapers.

I can now use the cheap glasses that are available at the chemist, and I have five pairs, which is good because I often misplace them!

I hope my story will help others to seek treatment.
