Dr Jennifer Fan Gaskin is a clinician-scientist dedicated to preventing blindness from glaucoma. She is a Principal Investigator and leads Ocular Fibrosis Research at the Centre for Eye Research Australia, and a Glaucoma Specialist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.

In 2021 Dr Fan Gaskin was named one of Science and Technology Australia’s Superstars of STEM. 

Dr Fan Gaskin obtained her Medical Degree (MBChB) with Distinction, and her Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Ophthalmology, both from the University of Auckland. She was awarded the prestigious Clinical Research Training Fellowship (Health Research Council NZ) for her Doctorate research (Keratoconus: Novel Investigations of the Diseased Cornea). Following her ophthalmology training with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists she conducted two glaucoma fellowships in Auckland and Melbourne, respectively, and was actively recruited to join Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital as a Consultant Ophthalmologist, and was also offered a sought-after position at the Centre for Eye Research Australia.

Jennifer is a passionate patient advocate through her role on the Glaucoma Australia Ophthalmology Committee. She also advocates for diversity and gender equality through her leadership roles: she is a Director of the Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia, she is the Victorian representative for the Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Society, she also examines for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. She offers ophthalmology consults at Hawthorn Eye Clinic and Armadale Eye Clinic in Melbourne.
