After a scheduled yearly eye exam, I was shocked to hear that my eye pressure was 36 mmHg and therefore I should see an ophthalmologist immediately, as this was way outside the normal level.

I have a friend who is married to an ophthalmologist, so luckily he fitted me in for an examination that day. The original optometrist I saw was at a Big W store – they no longer have this service – and he was looking for a job now that the store decided it was going to close.

I found out his new location and have gone to him ever since, as his prompt action and, clear and concise description of my situation helped to put me on the right path to managing my glaucoma.

I am happy to report that my IOP is now at 11/12 mmHg, and well under control.
